Kolkata XI are a Kolkata-based franchisee in the Indian T20 League. The team is owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in collaboration with Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta. Kolkata XI is led by former India captain Daniel Vetori and is currently coached by Dav Whatmore. The franchisee is ranked the second-most valuable team in the League after Chennai XI. 2008 Season: Kolkata XI started their campaign on a winning note against Bangalore XI, courtesy a superb innings by Brendon McCullum (158). But soon after, Kolkata XI lost three consecutive matches. Although the team managed to make a comeback at the later stages, it was way too late for them to qualify for the semis. 2009 Season: The team was hit by a controversial â??Multiple Captain Theoryâ??, proposed by their former coach John Buchanan. Sourav Ganguly was removed from the captaincy and was replaced by Brendon McCullum at the eleventh hour. Kolkata XI again failed on the field and were among the last two teams in the standings. 2010 Season: Kolkata XI roped in Shane Bond for the 2010 season. Dav Whatmore replaced John Buchanan as the coach and Sourav Ganguly was again made the captain. The team made a decent start after defeating Bangalore XI and the Hyderabad XI. But, they soon faced three back-to-back defeats. Their dream to qualify for the semis remained a dream as they were thrashed by the Chennai XI.

Kochi XI is also one of the two new teams included in the Indian T20 League. The Kochi team was acquired by the Rendezvous Sports World. Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson has been made the coach of the Kochi team. Since its commencement, the Kochi team has been at the centre of attraction for many controversies. There had been a major dispute between the share holders and the promoters of the team due to which the BCCI has given an ultimatum of 30 days to the franchisee for solving their issues related to the ownership pattern or face scrapping. However, the BCCI later decided to provide some extra time to the Kochi franchisee. After much of speculations and discussions, BCCI finally announced that the Kochi franchisee would participate in the fourth IPL season. A new stadium is under construction at Edakochi in Kerala under the guidance of Kerala Cricket Association. Till then, Kochi will play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium located in Kochi

Mohali XI are a franchisee based in Mohali, Punjab. The outfit is owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia of Bombay Dyeing, Mohit Burman of Dabur and Karan Paul of Apeejay Surendra Group. The Group bought the franchise for US$76 million. Sri Lanka player Kumar Sangakkara replaced Yuvraj Singh as the captain of the team after the second season of the Indian T20 League. 2008 Season: Mohali XI started their campaign on a hapless note after losing their first two matches. But they quickly bounced back and managed to secure their place in the semifinals. Their journey ended after losing to Chennai XI in the semifinal and they landed up in third position. 2009 Season: Mohali XI witnessed a bumpy ride throughout the tournament. In all, they won four matches and lost as many games. Mohali XI made their exit from the tournament after losing their last match to the Chennai XI. 2010 season: The team had a disastrous run in season three of the Indian T20 League. They ended up last in the standings. Controversy and 2011: The BCCI expelled Mohali XI and Jaipur XI from taking part in the season 4. After initial discussions failed, the franchisee decided to file a case in the Bombay High Court. After the Courtâ??s decision, the Mohali XI are allowed to take part in season 4 on the basis of some certain financial clauses.

Delhi XI are the Indian T20 League franchisee based in Delhi. The franchisee is owned by the GMR group. The GMR group acquired the franchisee for US$84 million. Virender Sehwag is the icon player for the Delhi XI. 2008 Season: The Delhi XI kicked off their campaign with a superb win over the Jaipur XI and Hyderabad XI. However, they also suffered four consecutive losses in the middle of the tournament. Delhi XI reached to the semi-final with a win over the Mumbai XI. Although, in the semis, they were defeated by the Jaipur XI by 105 runs. 2009 Season: Delhi XI were boosted by the performance of A.B. de Villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan, and Ashish Nehra. They dominated much of the league season 2009 in South Africa. But, despite their dominating season, Delhi lost their semi-final match against the Hyderabad XI, courtesy a superb innings by Adam Gilchrist. 2010 Season: The third season of the Indian T20 League was a rollercoaster ride for the Delhi XI. They managed to win seven of their league matches out of the fourteen. In the last match, they were knocked off by the Hyderabad XI.

Hyderabad XI are the Hyderabad-based franchisee in the Indian T20 League. The team is owned by Deccan Chronicle Corporation. In the later stages, another media group, â??Group M Indiaâ?? bought up a 20% stake in the franchisee. Hyderabad XI are captained by former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist and is coached by Darren Lehman. 2008 Season: Hyderabad XI were termed the strongest team with star players like Adam Gilchrist, Shahid Afridi, Andrew Symonds, and Herschelle Gibbs in their ranks. But, the team failed, with only two wins out of their 14 matches. As a result, they were placed at the bottom of the table. 2009 Season: Hyderabad XI were given an entirely new make-over after poor show in the inaugural season of the League. Adam Gilchrist replaced VVS Laxman as the skipper and Robin Singh was replaced by Darren Lehman as the coach. Hyderabad XI made an inspiring comeback in 2009 after a below-par performance in 2008. They thrashed Delhi XI in the semis to make it to the finals. In the finals, Hyderabad XI outclassed Bangalore XI to lift the Indian T20 League trophy. 2010 Season: Hyderabad XI started their campaign on a losing note, facing defeat at the hands of Kolkata XI. But they performed tremendously well in their next three matches. In the semifinals, they were thrashed by Chennai XI.
